Looking for a Loqus TrakIT alternative in Malta
What else there is, what moving actually involves, and where Tracking.com.mt is the wrong answer.
Why operators start looking
The four reasons a Maltese fleet usually changes telematics supplier.
The hardware no longer matches the fleet
A fleet that started on plug-in trackers adds vans that need hardwired installs, refrigerated bodies that need temperature probes, or plant with no power at all. The question becomes whether one supplier can fit all of it.
The data will not leave the platform
Reporting is fine until someone needs trip and engine data inside a payroll system, a job scheduler or a spreadsheet that finance already uses. Then it matters whether there is a REST API and whether webhooks exist.
Nobody local can attend the vehicle
A tracker that has stopped reporting needs somebody to open the dashboard and look at the loom. Where fitting is subcontracted, that visit is slower to arrange.
The contract is up for renewal
Renewal is when most operators check what the same money buys elsewhere, and whether the devices already fitted can stay.
What it costs
The two figures that are fixed, and the two that are quoted.
Where it starts
App-based tracking starts at EUR 3 per month, which covers the driver app with no tracking device fitted. Mobility is billed per asset and starts at EUR 2 per month.
Hardware is separate
Tracking with a fitted device is priced in tiers rather than at one rate, because an OBD dongle, a hardwired unit with immobilisation and a battery-powered asset tracker are not the same product. You get a tier quoted against the fleet you actually run.
Fitting is quoted
Installation is charged separately and depends on the install type. OBD and plug-in devices need no appointment. Hardwired work and immobilisation are booked with an auto-electrician and quoted for the vehicle.
Term changes the number
Monthly and annual terms are both available, and a longer term carries a discount. Ask for both figures so you can see the difference before you commit to either.
What moving involves
Written out so you can judge the effort before you call anyone.
Existing devices
Hardware from another supplier is usually locked to that supplier's platform, so a move normally means new devices. Tracking.com.mt supports Teltonika, Ruptela, Digital Matter and Queclink, and will say up front which of those can carry over.
Fitting
OBD and plug-in devices go in without an appointment. Hardwired installs and immobilisation are booked with our own auto-electricians.
History
Location history on the old platform belongs to that contract. Export what you need before the account closes. Tracking.com.mt retains location history for 2 years from the point you start.
Running both
Nothing stops a short overlap while drivers get used to the app and the reports are checked against the old ones.
When Tracking.com.mt is the wrong choice
Four situations where you should buy elsewhere.
- You need a person on the phone outside business hours. The platform, tracking and alerts run continuously, but human support is business hours.
- You want immobilisation on a plug-in device. Engine cut-off is available on hardwired installations only.
- You are buying building automation or utility metering. Those are fixed installations, a different discipline with different suppliers.
- You operate entirely outside Malta and want local fitting. The installer network is Maltese.
